Happy 20th birthday, Matia! 🎉 She was born in 2004 to a mother who was rescued while pregnant and unable to care for her. Raised by humans, the young sea lion couldn’t be released to the wild. She’s very smart and loves to have fun! 🦭

Dive into wonder at the newly refreshed Tropical Reef Aquarium, opening June 14! 🐠 Thanks to Tacoma’s own talented artist, Mindy Barker, the entry atrium is now a vibrant masterpiece featuring colorful clownfish, smiling zebra sharks, and floating clouds that not only captivate the eye but also help absorb sound. Funded by @metroparkstacoma`s public art initiative, Mindy`s work inspires curiosity and environmental care with every brushstroke. 🎨

Crackle and Frick, our 11-year-old meerkats, are delighting in their puzzle feeder enrichment, a playful way to encourage natural behaviors. 🧩 Keepers hide snacks within, promoting instincts like digging. Given that the lifespan of meerkats in human care is 10 years, our duo is considered senior but still doing well.

Exciting news and just in time for Mother’s Day! 💕 Five critically endangered American Red Wolf pups were born at our off-site facility. The wiggly and healthy pups are growing fast - and are the latest success in recovering the only wolf species found solely in the United States. With an estimated 20-22 Red Wolves remaining in the wild in eastern North Carolina, we are doing everything possible to restore this critically endangered species.
