Little Lemur Girl
An infant ring-tailed lemur is getting a little TLC in the San Diego Zoo's neonatal assisted care facility, and oh, baby, is she cute! Her mother, Tweena, is a first-time mom and was having a little trouble providing enough nutrition for her new arrival. So keepers stepped in to lend a helping hand—and bottle. Tweena and the baby's father, Matthew, are being taken to the nursery for regular visits so the family can stay well acquainted. It's hoped the youngster will return to Tweena's care soon, but until then she can be seen in the Children's Zoo Nursery in Discovery Outpost.
Penguin Cam Clicks with Fans
Dan and McKinney, the Zoo's African penguin brothers, are our newest web-footed web stars! Thanks to a live cam in the Children's Zoo, fans of the dynamic feathered duo can watch them swim, waddle, and frolic in their temporary exhibit. It's black-and-white fun—in living color! The boys are enjoying their stay in Discovery Outpost, but the future brings new—and bigger—digs: Penguin Beach, an expansive, state-of-the-art habitat being built as part of Conrad Prebys Africa Rocks, which is slated to open in 2017.
Celebrate Father's Day at the Zoo and Park
The San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park have feasts fit for a king to celebrate Dad on Father's Day, Sunday, June 21. At the Zoo, Albert's Restaurant is offering their terrific brunch menu from 10 a.m. to noon—for reservations, call 619-685-3200. Beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Safari Park, a delicious Father's Day BBQ Buffet in Nairobi Village will be accompanied by live music. Cost for members is $44.95 for adults and $18.95 for children, plus tax and gratuity.
Listen Up—It's Nighttime Fun at the Zoo!
Follow the music—and sounds of summer fun—to the San Diego Zoo's Nighttime Zoo presented by Cymer, June 21 through September 7! "Shake, Rattle, & Roar" is the theme of this year's extravaganza, and you'll want to dance along to the Alley Cats, Rock and Roar, the Chameleons, and other exciting performers as the Zoo keeps hopping until 9 p.m. nightly. Albert's Restaurant will offer its "Happy Happens" happy hour specials from 3 to 5 p.m. daily (June 21–September 7), and "Earth Rhythms," a music, light, and video experience, awaits in Wegeforth Bowl to end your evening on a perfect note. Come shake your tail feathers!
Summer Safari at the Park
Music, shows, and exciting entertainment will all be part of the Safari Park's Summer Safari Asian Celebration, June 29 through August 16. From acrobats and martial arts performers to animal encounters and our amazing Sumatran tigers, Summer Safari will celebrate the wonders of the Far East. With the Park open until 7 p.m. daily, you'll have time to take an evening tram ride and still prowl to your heart's content!
