CHILHOWIE, Va. – The Chilhowie Warriors have achieved a status that all high school baseball programs aspire to attain.

“Chance has been clutch for us this season,” said Lebanon coach Cody Compton. “He has come through in the tough spots. He’s just finding a way on or coming up with the big hit.”

After Honaker High School’s Kadence Keen had scored a goal early in the second half of Tuesday’s VHSL Class 1 girls soccer state quarterfinal match, she was swarmed by her joyful teammates.

“I feel comfortable in the box and I know I can help my team in that aspect,” Banks said.

It was a moment that few could have envisioned back in 2009 when Honaker High School offered soccer as a varsity sport for the first time.
