Now that Nighttime Zoo is in full swing, San Diego Zoo guests can stay later and have more time to visit the animals—including the giant pandas. Keeper Anastasia Horning provides a quick update on the famous bears and when you can see them.
Lobsters have been spotted at the San Diego Zoo, and they weren't on a plate—they're in the trees! Three critically endangered Lord Howe Island stick insects, also known as tree lobsters, have hatched at the Zoo, marking the first time in our history that we have participated in the reproduction of a critically endangered insect. This species was last seen in the wild in 1920 and was believed to be extinct until 2001, when a small group was found living on Ball's Pyramid, a remnant of volcano in the Pacific Ocean.
Come experience a continent's worth of excitement as the Safari Park comes alive with the sights, sounds, and flavors of Africa during Summer Safari, from June 30 to August 19. Chief Kahle welcomes guests to a daily celebration that includes music, acrobats, animal encounters, special delicacies, and interactive fun. Don't miss the party!
Reptile Walk, the exciting new addition to our reptile (and amphibian) realm, has opened at the Zoo, and the fascinating inhabitants are waiting to greet you in their new exhibit buildings and habitats. Come check out Chinese alligators, mossy tree frogs, rosy boas, snake-necked turtles, and many more. Reptile Walk can be found behind the Reptile House, across from the Galápagos tortoises.
We've been given a big opportunity to save wildlife and need your support! M. Javade Chaudhri, one of our Wildlife Guardians and a San Diego Zoo Global trustee, will match every dollar you give to our Wildlife Conservancy, up to $10,000, through July 15. And if you pledge $100 or more, we'll send you a 100% eco-friendly journal.
We're dedicating our July Wish List to the many babies born recently at the Zoo and the Safari Park, along with their closest friends! You'll find enrichment items for Tikal and Maderas, nine-week-old jaguar cubs—the first to be born here since 1989. We also have fun toys for Thomas and Conrad, our newest Sumatran tiger cubs born at the Safari Park. Please help us spoil our critters—your support makes a big difference.
