A "Weigh" We Go
Happy, healthy, and with a strong attitude! That was the result of the San Diego Zoo's newest koala joey's checkup. The nine-month-old male, who had only been out of Mom's pouch for about two months, is "right on track with his development," according to his devoted keepers. Animal care staff made sure the little guy felt secure during his exam—offering him a plush pal to cuddle! Visitors can see the joey with his mom, Cambee, in the Zoo's Australian Outback exhibit, where they live with the other 18 members of the koala colony. You can also sneak a peek via our Koala Cam!
Don't Miss Summer Safari at the Park
This weekend is your last chance to enjoy the Safari Park's Summer Safari Asian Celebration, and its music, shows, and exciting entertainment. Sunday, August 16, brings to a close this year's summer celebration of the wonders of the Far East, including acrobats and martial arts performers, animal encounters, and our amazing Sumatran tigers. With the Park open until 7 p.m. daily, you have time to take an evening tram ride, and still prowl to your heart's content!
RISE of the Jack O'Lanterns at the Safari Park
Coming soon to the Safari Park… it's the RISE of the Jack O'Lanterns! This unique, family friendly, Halloween-themed event is being presented for the first time in San Diego, and will take place outdoors on select dates and times in the Safari Park's parking lot. Take a walk along the 1/3-mile trail to discover 5,000 hand-carved, illuminated jack o'lanterns arranged in artful displays, representing celebrities, sports teams, classic cars, dinosaurs, and of course, zoo animals! This festive event takes place in the evening and requires an advance online ticket purchase from The RISE website for a pre-selected date/time. No day-of or on-site ticket sales. All ticket sales are through The RISE website only (the San Diego Zoo and Safari Park are not selling tickets to this event).
Listen Up—It's Nighttime Fun at the Zoo!
There's still time to follow the music—and sounds of summer fun—to the San Diego Zoo's Nighttime Zoo presented by Cymer, through September 7! "Shake, Rattle, and Roar" is the theme of this year's extravaganza, and you'll want to dance along to the Alley Cats, Rock and Roar, the Chameleons, and other exciting performers as the Zoo keeps hopping until 9 nightly. Albert's Restaurant will offer its "Happy Happens" happy hour specials from 3 to 5 p.m. daily (through September 7), and "Earth Rhythms," a music, light, and video experience, awaits in Wegeforth Bowl to end your evening on a perfect note. Come shake your tail feathers!
