Baby BFFs
If there’s anything cuter than a 6-week-old cheetah cub, it’s a 6-week-old cheetah cub playing with his 7-week-old puppy pal! Ruuxa the cheetah and Raina the Rhodesian ridgeback pup were introduced this week and are already becoming fast friends. While the two are slated to eventually join the ranks of the Safari Park’s animal ambassadors, they are currently spending their time playing and napping together. It’s a cute job, but someone’s gotta do it!
A Panda Prodigy
Xiao Liwu continues to be a black-and-white wunderkind. According to his keepers, Mr. Wu has been the easiest of Bai Yun’s six cubs to train. The brainy little bear mastered his blood draw and blood pressure check training on his first try, a process that normally takes weeks! Almost as amazing as his aptitude for learning is his appetite for food—the good little plate cleaner is now chomping down more bamboo than his mom! Talk about an overachiever!
Father’s Day BBQ at the Park
Treat Dad to a king-sized celebration at the Safari Park on Father’s Day, this Sunday, June 15. A hearty buffet featuring barbecued specialties and all the fixings will be offered from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Park’s Hunte Nairobi Pavilion. Top off your meal with a yummy dessert. Cost is $42.95 for adults and $18.95 for kids ages 3-11, plus tax, gratuity, and parking. Nonmembers must add Park admission.
A Roaring Good Time at the Safari Park
This year’s Summer Safari presented by LivingSocial brings an Asian celebration to the Park, complete with music, entertainment, and shows, all honoring the exciting new Tull Family Tiger Trail experience. Starting June 21 and running through August 17, the fun includes extended hours and the chance to enjoy a relaxing late-afternoon Africa Tram tour. Don’t miss the fun!
Explore “Koalafornia” at Nighttime Zoo
The Australian Outback meets the California shore for this year’s “Koalafornia”-themed Nighttime Zoo, June 28 through September 1 at the Zoo. Aussie lore enchants and abounds throughout the evening, especially during the new show “Australiana II: Return to the Outback.” The Kangaroo Crossing crew will be on hand (and feet) performing kangaroo-style skills during an exciting trampoline act, and Dr. Zoolittle has a special show full of fun. Summer snacks, an evening happy hour at Albert’s Restaurant, and the chance to see our new mountain lion exhibit are all part of the fun, which runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Summer Brewmaster Dinner at the Park
Join us at Mombasa Pavilion on Saturday, July 12, for a delicious dinner featuring the brews of Green Flash Brewery. Our Safari Park chefs will expertly pair each course with the highlighted beer selections for a wonderful dining experience. The evening begins with an animal presentation at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. Cost is $79 for members and $92 for nonmembers. Tax, gratuity, and parking not included. Must be 21 or older to attend.
Show Your Stripes with the Park’s New App
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park invites you to unleash your inner tiger with Stripe Yourself, an HTML5 Web app that lets users create their own special tiger-inspired look. Upload your own photo and choose from a menu of tiger features like ears, whiskers, eyes, and tails, then pick the background and foreground that most suit your mood. Once you’ve made your Stripe Yourself creation, upload it to the online gallery and share it on social media, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest, to show the world your "tiger power."
