And (Big) Baby Makes… 12?!
African river hippos Funani and Otis have made it a darling dozen—their 12th calf was born late last month at the San Diego Zoo! The curious cutie spends most of his time sticking close to mom, but visitors may still catch a glimpse of him as he expands his exploration of the exhibit's pool. Keepers call him "fearless," and he's certainly keeping Funani on her toes! The "little" boy is growing steadily, and is scheduled to be on exhibit with his mother on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays—if Funani says it's OK. Mother knows best!
Let Your Wild Ones Meet Ours!
October is the perfect time for a "wild" adventure, as the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park will offer free admission all month long to children 11 years old and younger—as part of Kids Free presented by Mission Federal Credit Union. Zoo and Safari Park guests will get the chance to observe amazing creatures, experience a fun day with family, and learn how everyone can help animals through conservation.
HalGLOWeen Fun Lights Up the Zoo
Take a look at the bright side of fall fun at HalGLOWeen at the San Diego Zoo! The colorfully creepy celebration takes place October 27 through 29 at the Zoo, and will be all lit up with activities and entertainment, including "Boolahoops," a DJ spinning spooktacular tunes for everyone to dance to among bursts of bubbles, acrobats, jugglers, our leader of laughs Dr. Zoolittle, pumpkin decorating (purchase required), a cupcake walk, and more. Kids are free for this event, and may wear costumes according to the guidelines posted on the HalGLOWeen web page. Happy Happens at Albert's Restaurant from 3 to 7:30 p.m., offering specialty cocktails, glasses of wine or beer for $6, and $7 appetizers. Don't get left in the dark!

The book retails for $14.99, and throughout October, San Diego Zoo Global members receive a 10-percent discount on children's books. (If shopping at shopzoo.com, enter code MEMBER10 at checkout.)
