Koala Name Game
Our newest bundle from Down Under is now peeking out of Nariah’s pouch, and it’s time this little koala cutie has a name! Starting April 26 and running through May 10, you can vote for your favorite marsupial moniker among the four final choices: Kirra (which means “leaf” in an Aboriginal dialect), Bri (“acacia”), Arika (“bluewater lily”), and Tallara (“rain”). In the meantime, check out the live Koala Cam to see if you can spot the joey and decide which name you think fits best!
Condor Chick Chat
Sisquoc and Shatash’s chick, which hatched on March 26, needs a name and there’s still time for you to help! Through April 15, you can log on to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Conservancy website and cast your vote for one of the five choices: Aximay (which means “to be black”), Cuyamaca (“behind the clouds), Niwish (“a dance”), Tepet (“to turn, to roll”), and Tiyep (“to teach). Meanwhile, Wesa, the first condor chick to hatch this year at the Park, is being puppet-raised and continues to thrive—munching on more than 15 mice each day. Bon appetit!
Yun Zi “Branches” Out
Thanks to the generosity of his fans, Yun Zi the giant panda has a “tree-rific” new toy! The 15-foot-tall, artificial tree isn’t just a climbing structure—it will provide rain shelter, shade, and four napping spots for our pandas to enjoy for years to come. Live plants can be added to the branches as leaves. Yun Zi is happily exploring it, and can hardly “leaf” it alone!
Mother’s Day Brunch at the Zoo and Park
Treat Mom to a special dining experience on her special day with brunch at the Zoo or Safari Park. On Sunday, May 12, Albert’s Restaurant at the Zoo will feature continuous seating from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the Park’s Hunte Pavilion will offer two seatings: 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Koalafornia Dreamin’ at the Zoo
As the May 24 opening of the Conrad Prebys Australian Outback at the Zoo approaches, why not get in the Aussie mood and check out our Koalafornia Dreamin’ website for all the details about this exciting exhibit? You can explore the exhibit, check out the winners of the Koalafornia Dreamin’ photo contest, and even purchase tickets!
