Captivating Kayode
Kayode, an 11-day-old, male southern white rhino calf, is taking "charge" at the Safari Park these days, romping with his mom, Kacy, and showing the other animals in the East African Plains exhibit who’s boss! Kayode, whose name means "he brings joy" in the West African language of Yoruba, is the 93rd southern white rhino born at the Park, and the 6th third-generation calf. Kayode is the first southern white rhino born here in eight years, so we are all kicking up our heels to celebrate! You can see him from the African Tram Safari.
"Takin" about Baby Linshuh
He's scampering around his exhibit and learning the finer points of head-butting—and he's only a month old! We're talkin' of course about our newest takin calf, Linshuh, who's keeping things lively at the Zoo's Panda Trek. His silvery coat and birth this year, in the year of the snake, helped earn him his name: it means "silver snake" in Mandarin.
New Koalas in Town
There are some fuzzy new faces around the Zoo these days, as our koala colony welcomed a trio of new members from the Land Down Under. The lovely new lady koala is petite little Beejay. Two males accompanied her: ginger-bellied Simba, and oh-so-cuddly Bradley. The newcomers will join the rest of the gang in our new koala exhibit in the Conrad Prebys Australian Outback, opening May 24.
Wing Your Way to Butterfly Jungle
Immerse yourself in a colorful world of fluttering wings March 16 to April 7 during Butterfly Jungle at the Safari Park! Marvel at these divinely delicate creatures, enter fun contests, and enjoy activities that will have your imagination taking flight. You can even indulge in an exclusive Butterfly Jungle Preview Dinner on March 15 that includes a gourmet meal and privileged advanced viewing of the winged wonders.
Make a Play Date with Your Favorite Animals
For 15 fun-filled days the San Diego Zoo becomes one big playground—for visitors and animals alike! San Diego Zoo Play Days, March 23 through April 7, offers up-close encounters with our animal ambassadors, activities, a digital Easter egg hunt around the Zoo, and even visits with the Easter Bunny himself. Don't miss a day of the fun!
