Things start with the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) law and regulations, which must provide clear standards. Then it is essential that regulated entities are fully aware of and understand their significant responsibilities. It is incumbent upon individuals, facilities, and organizations to have the knowledge, insights, and experience to fulfill their legal (and moral) responsibilities to the animals entrusted to their care. Taken together, all these and other things help protect and save animals and promote their well-being. “Using all available resources” to do this begins with us.

Safe Capture

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our January training event at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. This event drew enthusiastic participants from around the US, including veterinarians, wildlife biologists, students, and other domestic animal and wildlife management specialists. We are so glad you could join us!

Upcoming Safe Capture In-person Training Events

Registration is now open for the following Academy Safe Capture in-person events:

Washington (Pullman): March 9–10, 2024: This event is being hosted by Washington State University and the University of Idaho and is open to all participants.

Missouri (St. Joseph): March 11–12, 2024: Thhis event is being hosted by Missouri Western State University and is open to all participants.

New York (Cortland): March 26–27, 2024: This event is being hosted by the DEC Wildlife Health Program and is open to all participants.
